South Carolina comes to Madrid!
After a fantastic few days in Lisbon, Valencia, and a crazy night out in Madrid, we found some time to relax!
We went to our first class of the week Wednesday afternoon, and hurried home to spend more time with Ashleigh! We walked through Plaza Mayor on our way to the San Miguel Market. I can't remember if we've talked about San Miguel before, but it is a big market, with many different vendors selling small snacks, great happy hour spot! We all shared empanadas and paella. SO GOOD. Before leaving San Miguel, we decided we wanted to make a meat and cheese tray when we came home to watch the Bachelor Finale. We were accidentally convinced to buy $50 worth of meats. Quite the price, but I will say it was some of the best meat we have ever tasted. After spending a bit to much on meat, we went to a cheap hole in the wall to buy cheese, to complete our perfect plate!
Came home drank red wine, and enjoyed the finale with our nice snack!
Thursday:
We woke up early and went to class! Came back home and took Ashleigh to one of our favorite spots close to home, "Fit Food". They serve the trendy Acai bowls, along with other healthy juices and coffee! After waiting a LONG TIME to get food, we hit a few shops to look for shoes! Really great cheap shoe stores near our apartment. Before all of the USC girls returned from Paris, we tried to find a pool to lay out at, and returned unsuccessful (most of the pools don't open until May).
Now the train started to roll! The squad came rolling in from Paris, and our apartment was back to insanity. Six girls, and luggage, is about max capacity for our teeny apartment. After they had time to refresh, we went and had drinks on the rooftop of the San Anton Market, and had an awesome time! Maggie's guy friends that go to UVA (who we went out with Tuesday night) joined us and the night had just begun.
We walked home and showered and readied ourselves for a big night! Our reservations at Ojalá was canceled somehow, so we all journeyed to the infamous El Tigre as a backup. We enjoyed drinks and free food until it was time to move to El Kapital (the seven story nightclub).
We all had a great time. A wannabe NFL player invited us to his table and supplied us with bottle of Grey Goose all night. We took a few losses on the evening but overall a great night at Kapital.
Friday:
A bit of a late start to the day, we walked to a nice restaurant in a square and enjoyed a much needed lunch. Then a BIG CROWD of us met at Retiro Park (the central park of Madrid) and walked around and enjoyed a beautiful day with some gelato of course!
As we were all pretty exhausted, we split up to do our own thing. We brought Ashleigh and Carolyn to Circulo de Bellas Artes, a beautiful rooftop bar that boasts the best views of Madrid. After sunset we met back up with everyone for dinner at the San Anton Market. We planned on going out for drinks after, but decided to all go home and regroup. All of our friends packed up and left early the next morning!
Although it was a hectic week, it was so nice having my friends here! I didn't realized how much I missed home until being with them for a week! Very nice to have a taste of home, and I'm glad we got a chance to show them a taste of Europe.
Ciao for now.
