BARCELONAAAAA
BEEP BEEP BEEP... the sound of our alarm at 4am Friday morning to get on our 6:25am plane to Barcelona!!!! We arrived in Barca at 8am, ready to go! Sofia, Madison, Carol, and I all hopped on the public bus to our FIRST HOSTEL EXPERIENCE, Sant Jordi Hostels (We we're BIG Fans)! We arrived to our hostel and we're greeted by Oh, also known as "Handsome Tiger Man," according to him. He was quite the character... pretty sure he was under the influence of something 24/7. Since it was early our room wasn't ready yet and Emilie booked the room and wasn't there yet, we couldn't check in. Oh gave us a tour of the hostel, gave us some tips on what to see and where to drink, we put our bags in the closet, and we were off!
First stop was Brunch and Cake, a delicious and unique brunch chain in Barcelona. From delicious juices, to giant slices of cake, to eggs benedict on a corn and charcoal waffle... WE WE'RE OBSESSED. On our way back to the hostel to meet up with Emilie and get ready for the day, we stopped at the 3 famous Gaudi Apartments, which were amazing. We arrive at the hostel and Emilie is still MIA so we decide to get ready in the common room... just 4 girls doing their makeup in a circle while sitting on the ground... definitely made some hostel friends as people walked by. Emilie finally arrived and we put our stuff in our 6 bunk bedroom, complete with a balcony! There were only 5 of us... and Oh told us we had a tall boy in bunk number 6! We then met up with Kenley, Maggie, and Maggie's two friends, one of whom is studying in Barcelona! We went to the Boqueria Market, with delicious fresh fruit, nuts, and various foods at every turn! After some delicious and fresh 1 Euro Mango and Pomegranate seeds... and some not so delicious fried sardines we we headed towards the beach! At the beach we ran into Oh... drinking of course... and he told us our tall roommate was just there! BUMMER, he still remains a mystery! We then stopped at a pub to get Irish coffees and Guiness' because its SAINT PATRICK'S DAY! Then we took our long stroll back towards the city center. We ate a DELICIOUS dinner at Sensi, consisting of truffle ravioli, sausage and cheese casserole, and a fried egg on top of ham. We decided we wanted to be full force for the next day so we decided to go back to our hostel, grabbing some wine and snacks on our way home. We FINALLY meet our tall roommate... and boy oh boy was he tall. Him and his friends all are studying in Madrid and from NYU. We hung out with them and chatted and then they headed out to go clubbing and we went to sleep!
7am!!! Tall Roomate Boy came stumbling in! Quiet as a Mouse... or as quiet as a 6ft 7in mouse could be! At 9am we all got up for communal showers and getting ready in the dark in order to not disturb Tall Roomate Boy. We met Maggie, Kenley, and Jon at Hammock for breakfast. Another GREAT spot, where the chairs were hammocks! The porridge and avocado bowl we're great! We toured around some more, the Arc de Triumf of Barcelona, Picasso Mueseum, Sagrada Familia, a quick stop at Mcdonald's, and Park Guell. After Park Guell, we walked to the Bunkers (a MUST according to Oh), we grabbed some beers, snacks, and boxed wine to watch the sunset at the bunkers. After a grueling walk all the way to the top, the view was UNREAL. 360 degree view of the city. Trost and Annie, other South Carolina friends met up with us, and we saw our Tall Roomate and his friends as well! Lots of chatting, drinking, and catching up... complete with a group beer shotgun. We then all headed home to get ready for our Mexican dinner! After dinner, we headed to the Hostel to chill before we hit the club, Opium. The goal was to make it until sunset to watch it on the beach, but only Jon and Carolyn we're successful in accomplishing that!
Emilie, Kenley, and Maggie had an early departure Sunday morning. Madison, Carolyn, Sofia, and I slept in a bit until the hostel came to let us know it was time to go. We headed to the beach for a delicious brunch at Surf House. After a slow moving brunch, we bought a tapestry from one of the many guys selling them on the beach, laid it out and basked in the sun! After a few hours we headed to Poke Bowl, build your own sushi bowl. It was AMAZING... and we just found out we're getting one in Columbia!!!! We stopped but the yacht yard to eat our poke bowls with a beautiful view, then we headed back to grab our bags and hit the airport! After getting Mcdonald's not once, but twice at the airport we were excited to be back in Madrid! It truly feels like home. Luckily, Monday is a holiday so we'll have a day to rest, unpack, and prepare for our week!
XOXO,
Tay
