Day 24 - Sugar Loaf Mountain
Another early morning for us! Our alarm went off at 7:15 and we went downstairs to eat at our incredible hotel breakfast buffet! Our tour guide met us in the lobby and we were off to Sugar Loaf Mountain. We took a cable car to the first platform and saw some incredible yet slightly hazy views of Copacabana and the bay! Then we took one more cable car up to the very top of SugarLoaf, but unfortunately from here we could see next to nothing. It is very foggy here in Rio during the winter! We explored the top, and then journeyed back down. On our way back down we saw a helicopter land just yards away, which was very cool to see!
After we returned to the bus we proceeded on a short city tour! We stopped at a Cathedral (pictures below) built in the 70s which was like nothing we had ever seen! Our tour guide dropped us at the hotel and we had the afternoon free!
We ordered food to the room (one of our favorite things to do in Rio) and took a little nap! We looked up great places to go in Rio for dinner and found Azumi a sushi and Japanese restaurant on the USA Today Top 10 List. Our expectations were very high. Upon our arrival we walked in and saw nothing but a whole in the wall asian joint. We gave it the benefit of the doubt and at this point either expected incredible traditional Japanese food, or an average cheap meal. We received neither of those. Our meal was average and very expensive. So thanks a lot USA Today Top 10.
After dinner we walked to get gelato close by! And then we journeyed home! A Brazilian girl came up and started dancing on us while we were walking. We thought we were all just having fun, but Taylor claims the woman tried to grab her phone out of her front pocket. Crazy crazy. Always have to be careful, but this was our first "bad" experience! We planned to go have another drink but were no longer in the mood. So now we are having a beer and more ice cream in our hotel room safe and sound! We have an easy day tomorrow with a late flight out of Rio back to Buenos Aires!
Tchau Tchau,
Madison
