Day 10 - Laundry

Buenos, Through our ISA program, our host families provide living space, breakfast and dinner daily, and laundry once a week. Today's topic is the laundry. This past Thursday Maritê told us she would do our laundry on Saturday. We left early in the morning Saturday and put our laundry in a bag in case she came to do it. Saturday came and went and our laundry was still in our room. It was raining all day and she hangs up the clothes outside to dry so we thought that might be way. However Sunday came and went and she still did not take our laundry, and we were running out of clothes! So we woke up this morning and took our clothes to our very first laundromat! The "lavanderias" here however wash, dry, and fold your clothes and you pick them up the same day! Quite nice if you ask me! Two full loads for 5 US Dollars. High in sight, it is probably much easier to just have the lavanderia do it as Marité's 3 kids come here to do her laundry and there are clothes hanging everywhere! Taylor and I were unsure where ours would fit! Also our program told us that most families will not wash your underwear, the lavanderías do! So we are glad to have gotten this laundry issue taken care of! After our laundry drop of we continued to school. Taylor and I stopped at Starbucks for our weekly reminder that the United States still exists! We had a full day of class and then headed to our favorite cafe for an empanada snack! We ordered a "pingüino" which is a ceramic penguin filled with the house red wine. The pingüino is an Argentinian tradition that our friend here Michael had heard about before he got here! So we decided to try it out! It was challenging to pour out of the penguin decanter but the wine was delicious! After our penguin wine and empanadas, we headed to another cafe to do our homework and then we headed home! Tonight after dinner, we are headed to a bar to watch Argentina play Chile in the Copa America. We can't wait to see all of the locals go crazy over their beloved soccer team! Chau, Mâdison
