Springfest Munich
PROSTTTTTT! PROSTTTTTTT!
(Cheers in German)
We arrived in Munich at 10am and were ready to hit the ground running! We arrived to our hostel where we met up with Lauren and Kelsey! We hit the cold and rainy city of Munich in search of "Drindle's," the traditional German dress! We hopped in and out of stores searching for the perfect one's. Finally we all said "YES to the Drindle" and we grabbed a quick healthy bite at "BiteDelite" in Munich's old town. We got ready and put our jackets on over our Drindle's to hit the town! We walked 10 minutes to the fair grounds and walked into a giant circus like tent, lined with tables and people dressed up with GIANT BEERS. We received our giant beers and sat down at a table. Shortly after, we locked eyes with JAMES VERCH, Madison's fourth grade boyfriend from Mount Pisgah, who we haven't seen in over 5 years. At 5:30 most of the tables we're reserved so we got kicked to the front of the room near the band. The food on the tables looked amazing... and due to a little liquid courage Mads and James tried to grab themselves some, but we're quickly denied. Then, we decided to check out the other tent... lots of people dancing on tables! So we joined in! After, "I love Rock and Roll" and "Sweet Caroline" had played a few times... or more... we met up with Nicky! We ordered fries for the table and MORE beer. The night continued with more beer, more friends, and more dancing. At midnight, we were pooped and went home as we had another day of shenanigans ahead of us.
After Carolyn's strange 4am shower... we all awoke at 1030am... a little groggy. We headed to Mr. Pancake for brunch. After the most delicious and fluffy pancakes we have ever tasted, it was time to get ready yet again. We made it to the fair grounds and found more friends from USC that clearly had gotten there much earlier than us. We ordered giant beers and a giant pretzel to get us going! Two boys from Belgium sat next to us, and after an hour of pondering we decided to engage in conversation with them! They had perfect English and French, and we had so many questions for them! One is studying in Boston in the fall and we invited him for a visit to USC... if we didn't scare him off. At 5:30 we switched tents... not before stopping for giant footlong spicy sausages... and the table dancing began. Nicky and his friends met up with us and the night carried on! Nicky, Carolyn, a friend, and I went on a few rides at the carnival right before closing! They were very scary and rough! Carol and I have lots of bruises to prove it. After the rides beat us up it was time to head home.
At 6:30am we hear Kelsey and Lauren in a panic as their flight is at 8 and they we're supposed to be packed and ready at 6! They scurried around grabbed their stuff and out they went... and luckily made it! We slept in a bit longer and then headed to the old town for brunch! The weather took a beautiful turn Sunny and 65! We ate at Cafe Glockenspiel and sat on the terrace. Mads got a traditional german meal of sausages and a pretzel, but the sausages were white and served in hot water.... :p. We walked around the city a bit more and found a Starbucks to get wifi and formulate a plan. After an unplanned hour stay we headed towards the English Gardens! They we're massive! Bigger than central park! We frolicked around and had heard of surfing in the park so we were on the look out. We found a crowd of people around the river... and the SURFERS! We we're mesmerized. We frolicked around some more and then headed back to the town for lunch. We ate at a traditional Munich Hofbrauhaus, ate some gelato in the square, and headed back to grab our things and go to the airport.
Exhausted and tummies full of beer and pretzels... we are headed to Amsterdam...
