We arrived in Amsterdam late, checked into our hotel, and
went right to sleep!
We woke up early Monday morning for a delicious brunch at
Bakers and Roasters, a Brazilian-Kiwi twist restaurant, with DIY Mimosas….
Perfect for our Champagne with a dash of orange juice mimosa specialties. We
then walked over to the Heineken Brewery for “The Heineken Experience.” We
enjoyed comparing it to our Guinness experience in Dublin, and learning about
the making and history of a different beer! We then hopped over to the canal
for a boat ride, where we got lots of little facts about Amsterdam… one being
that they recently put up railings at the edge of the canal in most places to
prevent cars from rolling into the river!!! Next, we headed over to the
Iamsterdam sign for some pictures and then we decided to search for a place to
grab a bite to eat. We ordered the traditional Amsterdam meat and cheese plate…
a little different than our delicious, gourmet meat and cheese plates here in
Spain… It was 2 types of raw looking sausages and cubes of gouda, notthe best… but it filled our tummies! Then we
we’re off to the Red Light District for a tour. We learned a lot about the
people that work there and the conditions. Amsterdam is proud to be rid of
pimps, most of the girls working have families and working in the district is
just their job, they pay taxes and make their own prices. Amsterdam also offers
an exit program to help them get a different job and settled in the area if
they want to leave standing in the windows behind them. We met some Spanish ladies
on our tour that were from Central America, but live in the US. They enjoyed
talking to us, and hearing about our abroad adventures, and we enjoyed
practicing our Spanish, especially with their easy to understand accents! After
a full day in Amsterdam, we headed home and prepared for another BIG day!
We went to The Avocado Show for breakfast! All the dishes
contain avocado in some way, shape, or form and were DELISH. Then we headed to
Anne Frank’s House and left with chills down our spine. We read her book in
middle school and it was very interesting to see the place she actually lived,
hid, and the artifacts left behind. Next, we headed to the Kuekenhof Gardens.
It was massive and FILLED with tulips. It was so beautiful and so colorful. WE
walked around for hours in awe of the beauty. The rest of the night was filled
with more Amsterdam things, which we’re interesting to say the least… and some
where inbetween experience what Amsterdam had to offer Madison and I finished
our Mergers and Acquisitions Project and returned to the town! Our night
concluded with a giant pizza and calzone delivered to our hotel room! AMAZING!
After a weekend that started with beer and ended with
Amsterdam shananigans…We are ready to be home in our bed back in Madrid!!
