Segovia!

Off we went on a one night getaway to Segovia, Spain.... but first, we missed our train! All four of us (Kenley, Maggie, Taylor, and I) had the time 10:45 in our heads. Turns out our train was actually at 10:15. Not sure why none of us thought to double check the time on our ticket, but you win some, you lose some. Today we lost 10euro to buy a second train ticket! Not making this mistake again!

We boarded our 30 minute train ride and were on our way. After about 5 minutes in an underground tunnel, we went from rainy, cold Madrid, to a beautiful snowy mountain wonderland (for 2 minutes) and then back under a tunnel until we finally landed in rainy, cold Segovia. The train ride seemed like we were in Narnia, or time traveling. It was crazy to see two completely different climates in a matter of minutes.

We immediately got of our train, boarded the public bus and arrived in Segovia...a quaint Spanish town with a population of 59,000. All four of us were hungry so stopped at the cheapest place we could find. And boy was that a mistake! Our food was challenging and we had to hold our breath every time our waiter came by. Smelled GROSS.

After lunch we went up to our AirBnB to put our stuff down and planned out the rest of our stay. We walked to Alcázar an INCREDIBLE castle (pictures below) and toured the entire inside and climbed to the top! The castle was built in the 1400s and then refurbished in the 1800s. Really really cool! We then walked very far down steps to the bottom of a big hill to get a cool view of the castle. The walk back up as NO FUN!

We grabbed a quick bite at a café, shopped for a little bit and then went to our apartment to freshen up for dinner! We researched several places and ended up going to a recommended bar. We walked in and without speaking, all the boys just stare, smile, and wink...while all of the girls were downright mean and made snooty contacts. I guess we really do look a lot different! Because without opening our mouths we clearly stood out as Americans. I guess three out of the four of us are blonde...that could be our problem. So after walking in and out of about 10 bars, we were very discouraged and almost gave up, but we ended up meeting four young people from England who live in Segovia and are teaching English there. We told them about our night and they took us under their wings and let us hang out for a while! They recommended this one bar that serves gummies with every drink you order. It was great! And then after an early night we went right to sleep!

In the morning we packed up and went back to our little café for breakfast. And then we took a few pictures in front of the Cathedral before we walked to the Aqueduct! The Aqueduct is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and boy was it a site to see! 186 arches, and we walked the whole thing, all the way around. After a long journey in Segovia, we boarded our bus, then our train and were back to Madrid.

We got home around 3:00 so after we unpacked we finally went and joined a really cool gym called GYMAGE. Bottom floor is a restaurant, health store, and nail and beauty salon. The gym is brand new and really nice! And then the top floor has a bar, a pool, and a tanning deck! We stopped at the market to buy a few things on the way home. And now we are showering and making some dinner before we go out!

One of our friends Jonny, from USC that is also studying in Madrid, has his mom in town tonight! His mom also happens to be Tommy Hilfiger's sister. So we are all going to go out together tonight! Apparently she is NUTS. So it should be interesting. And Nicky Esposito (Kelly's Boyfriend) is also in town tonight! So it should be fun!

Until Tomorrow...
