MADRID - Day 2, 3, 4
Bearings... CHECK, Metro Cards... CHECK, Gym Membership... CHECK! Classes... kinda check.
Starting to get the hang of things around here in Madrid!
On day 2 we accidentally slept until 12:30... still getting used to the time change! Then, we met up with Maggie and Kenley and explored around our area for a bit! We live in the "gayborhood" so it's pretty safe! We got our metro cards, checked out our gym (which has a bar and pool on the roof), and went to Market Anton (pictures below).
DAY 3 and 4 was orientation at our new school, Universidad de Francisco de Vitoria. We took the metro station to our "private school bus" and on to school we went! It's a little over a hour commute. We had orientation where EVERYONE is from all over and speaks their own beautiful language, Spanish, AND English. Mads was embarrassed by me when we introduced ourselves in Spanish to our group... I think I sound just a little American... okay maybe A LOT. At one point we joined a group of girls... one from Saudi Arabia, one from France, and one from Netherlands all speaking English because it's the Universal language! CRAZY!
Day 4 was actually signing up for classes and OH BOY! They do it all old school here at our "Private Catholic University" (Mads and I are convinced its the Harvard of Spain). We got video instructions and 3 thick packets of paper! We flipped through the schedules and classes offered and compared them to our approved home university classes and tried to make all the times work. It was IMPOSSIBLE!!! After two hours of struggling together... we finally got in line for the ONE counselor who was approving our schedules and that took almost 2 hours just waiting! Finally, we were cleared and hopefully are taking a Spanish Culture Wine class (if approved by our advisor at USC)!!!!!
... then it was back to the home land to meet up with Maggie and Kenley at the train station to look at costs for a little weekend get away! We decided on Segovia and also booked Dublin, Prague, and Sevilla in the process... (might have gotten a little carried away). Then we went for drinks! A lot of places here in Madrid give you free tapas (appetizers) when you order drinks... so we've been taking full advantage!
Next stop... SEGOVIA, SPAIN!
